A Tacoma Washington company is having their assets sold via an unreserved  public auction.

Corporate Casework, Inc. cabinet building company that began operations in 1993 and at one time employed over 60 people has closed their doors. They had built cabinets for some of the larger companies in that region including, Nintendo, Weyerhaeuser, REI and Microsoft.

This marks the 50th auction conducted at CyberAuctions.com in the last year. Ehli Auction President Randy Ehli said “Online auctions have worked really well for us the last few years. Buyers like the opportunity to participate in the auctions without the travel and time commitments required by live oral auctions. We have seen a marked increase in participation from buyers 200-400 miles away, these are bidders who normally would not have traveled to the auction.”

The auction will include over 0,000 worth of equipment at original purchase price. Appraiser Chad Ehli said “This is an excellent opportunity for buyer’s to purchase quality used equipment at great discounts.” Auction highlights include a 2005 UD 24’ box truck, a 2004 Cehisa EP-11 edgebander, a 2004 Giben Smart SP panel saw, and several other pieces of quality used woodworking equipment.

Ehli Auctions mentions that the auction will be online only, and all bidding closes on October 7th, 2010.  All bids must be submitted via the CyberAuctions.com site.

Are there smart apps for vehicles? In this day and age, if there aren’t smart apps for something, there’s a pretty good chance that there will be soon.

Toyota Parts Center, which is a part of  Olathe Toyota, a Toyota dealers in the Kansas City area has released a list of what they say are the best smartphone applications for Toyota trucks and cars.

The list they released covers the smartphone apps for the iPhone, Andorid and Blackberry phones. They list 60 apps and tools including some pretty cool ones that help you to remember where you last parked your car by using GPS technology.

Some of the neat apps they list for Toyota owners are….

Parking apps
GPS navigation units and apps
Fuel price websites
Fuel and maintenance apps
Car safety apps
Traffic report websites

“Online tools and smartphone applications are making it a lot easier for us to take care of our cars and trucks,” said Tom Blackman, parts manager at Toyota Parts Center. “We’ve sifted through thousands of websites and applications and found the most useful ones for your Toyota.”

Did you know that sign language has its own international day?

The California Association of the Deaf is marking the international day on September 30th. Ralph Singleton, President remarks, “We have a long way to go as we work together to lift the oppression that our community has had to deal with over the past 130 years. We are committed to working with on future legislation recognizing the human right to and value of American Sign Language as a natural language in early identification and intervention program”.

Associations for the deaf work closely with the deaf community to bring them the resources they need to be albe to function more effectively in a world that doesn’t understand them. Another goal these organizaitions have is to reach out to the non deaf community and bring awareness to the needs and challenges facing the deaf community.

A deaf person learns sign language as their means of communicating. To communicate with a deaf person, you need to learn sign language. This opens up a whole new world to the person learning sign language to be able to talk to a deaf person.

Hosting this event is the California Association of the Deaf. Cruise 1st has implemented a new website that is focusing on the Austrailian market. The site called Cruise 1st Austraia will offer a large array of discounted cruises with prices in Austrailian dollars. Customers will be able to book every part their trip online.

The site went online in July of 2010 and Cruise 1st has listed Chris Rankin, a Quantas veteran as their General Manager.

Chris Rankins began his career in the UK working with Quantas. He most recently worked for Jetset Travelworld as a GM for their wholesale section and before that as a GM for Quantas Holidays.

Cruise 1st Australia has opened a new office in Sydney which is where Chris Rankin relocated in 2007.

Daniel Townsley, managing director of Cruise 1st UK, said “We are extremely excited to be welcoming someone with as much experience in the industry as Chris Rankin into the Cruise 1st family. As winter closes in once again, its time to consider the condition of your vehicles batteries.

The heat of summer can easily take a toll on your car batteries strength, Winters cold can cause even more problems. Approxiately 17% of breakdowns are battery related according to RAC.

For 200 years, Oktoberfests have been held in Munich except in times of war. Many people migrated from Germany over the years since and Oktoberfests have sprung up in many communities.

Ober Gatlinburg is celebrating an Oktoberfest festival every weekend in October with Bavarain food, music and drinks.

Gatlinburg community will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the very popular festival in Munich with great fun each weekend in October beginning Friday nights and on Saturdays and Sundays.

If you don’t have dirndls or lederhosen, you can still come and join in all the fun.

There will be bands performing all types of traditional music and dances in authentic attire. From schuhplattling, yodels, sing a longs, oompah, and Bavarian folk dances.

The event was very popular in the 1980′s when the Heidelberg Castle was operating a restaurant in Ober Gatlinburg. Some of the original members of the Bavarian Fun Makers Band will be attending.

Octoberfest didn’t start as a festival. It began on October 17th, 1810 as a celebration by the public of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig I and Princess Therese of Bavaria.

Celebrations have continued through the years, typically starting the last of September through the first week in October, with around six million attending each year.

Special Biers and the German foods you’d expect will be available. Schnitzel, strudel, sauerkraut, wurst, pretzels and many other tradional specialties.
